It’s Hard to Say Goodbye to Someone Who Meant So Much

Though Natasha Mae Fester passed away last year, her story continues to inspire. Like many others, I first learned about Natasha Mae Fester’s story through a heartfelt video shared online. The images, filled with joy, warmth, and love, showcased a woman who touched countless lives in her 33 years. Though I never had the privilege of knowing her personally, her story and the way it’s been shared with the world made me reflect deeply on the love and connections we often take for granted.

Moments That Defined a Beautiful Life

Scrolling through the images and stories shared on Natasha’s obituary page, it was impossible not to feel connected to her life. Each image told a story of love – her children laughing by her side, her husband smiling at her, and friends cherishing every moment spent together.

Natasha’s radiant smile wasn’t just for the camera – it was a reflection of the joy she brought to everyone around her. Watching that tribute, I couldn’t help but feel grateful for the glimpse into a life so beautifully lived, full of meaning, love, and purpose.

A Community in Mourning

Natasha’s passing on March 13, 2024, was a heartbreaking moment for her family, friends, and the entire community. Her funeral services were held at the Church of St. Mary in Willmar, with hundreds gathering to honor her life and legacy.

While some reports suggest her death may have been the result of a car accident, these details remain unconfirmed. Out of respect for her family, the exact circumstances have been kept private. What truly matters is not how Natasha left this world but how she lived in it – with love, kindness, and an unwavering dedication to others.

A Life Rooted in Family and Love

For Natasha, family was everything. Married to Matthew Fester on July 7, 2012, she built a home filled with love, laughter, and warmth for their four children: Mason (12), Marshel (8), Maxton (5), and MaKinlee (3).

She was her children’s loudest cheerleader, showing up at soccer games, go-kart races, and school events with unmatched enthusiasm. Her friends joked that she had “superpowers,” juggling DIY Pinterest projects, baking for fundraisers, and supporting her kids all at once.

Natasha also shared a special bond with her father, Jeff, who affectionately nicknamed her “Harold.” Their bond was one-of-a-kind, with her family often saying she had him “wrapped around her finger.”

A Passionate and Accomplished Nurse

Natasha’s love for helping others was the cornerstone of her career in nursing. After graduating from Willmar High School in 2009, she pursued her LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) at Ridgewater College, then earned her RN (Registered Nurse) from Rasmussen College in St. Cloud. Her dedication led her to achieve her BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) at Mankato State and, most recently, her Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner degree from the University of North Dakota in August 2023.

In November 2023, Natasha began her role at CentraCare Rice Memorial Hospital, where she poured her heart into her work. One colleague fondly remembered, “Natasha wasn’t just here to do a job—she made sure every patient felt safe, valued, and cared for.”

Natasha also served as the administrator of C.A.R.E., where she helped countless individuals find their potential. Jessica Wild, a coworker, shared, “She was always the first to say, ‘How can we make this happen?’ Natasha saw the potential in everyone.”

Kindness That Changed Lives

Natasha had a favorite saying: “Kindness is never wasted.” This wasn’t just a motto—it was how she lived her life. Whether comforting a patient, helping a neighbor, or simply offering a warm smile, Natasha’s kindness left an indelible mark on everyone she met.

Michelle Sherwood, a former neighbor, shared, “She was the most amazing neighbor to have. She will always be in my heart.”

Her acts of kindness weren’t grand gestures – they were simple, genuine, and heartfelt, and they made an incredible impact on those around her.

Her Hobbies and Loves Beyond Work

Outside of her career and family, Natasha had a vibrant personality. She loved demo derbies, stock car racing, and cheering on her boys at their events. She also had a passion for DIY projects, always bringing Pinterest ideas to life with her creativity.

Her vibrant personality and love for life brought people together, and her presence lit up every room she walked into.

Cherishing Her Memory

Natasha’s passing has left a void that cannot be filled, but the love she gave to her family, friends, and patients will never fade. As her husband Matthew and their children move forward, the community’s support and the countless memories they shared with Natasha will continue to guide them.

Her funeral was a moment of collective grief but also of profound gratitude for the life she lived. A family friend shared this scripture at her service: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”

A Final Reflection

As I reflect on Natasha’s life, I’m reminded of how fleeting time can be. Watching the moments shared online – her laughter, her family, her joy – it’s clear that Natasha filled her years with love and meaning.

Her story inspires us to cherish the love in our own lives, to hold the people we care about a little closer, and to live with intention. Natasha’s life reminds us that even the smallest acts of kindness can leave a legacy that lasts forever.
